Chivito Crocante

About Chivito Crocante

The Chivito Crocante is a beloved recipe from Uruguay, often hailed for its rich flavors and the delightful crunch that accompanies every bite. The roots of the Chivito trace back to a small restaurant in Punta del Este, where the owner Antonio Carbonaro created it as a quick, flavorful dish catering to tourists. Its popularity soared, making it a staple in Uruguayan cuisine. The term "Chivito" traditionally refers to a "little goat", but the dish itself doesn't contain goat. Instead, it's a flavorful sandwich packed with beef, vegetables, and distinctive toppings, offering a satisfying eating experience. Our version, Chivito Crocante, adds an extra layer of texture with a crispiness that elevates the traditional Chivito to new heights.

Ingredients

Preparation

Step 1: Preparing the Ingredients

Begin by gathering all the fresh beef steak, bacon, ham, mozzarella cheese, eggs, tomato, lettuce, mayonnaise, bread buns, butter, salt, ground pepper, crispy onions, and olive oil.

Step 2: Cooking the Ingredients

In a frying pan, heat some olive oil over medium-high heat. Season the beef steak with salt and ground pepper. Cook the steak for about 4 minutes on each side until it reaches your desired level of doneness. Remove and let it rest.

Using the same pan, fry the bacon slices until crispy. Set aside. Next, sear the ham slices briefly until heated through. In a separate pan, fry the eggs sunny-side up, maintaining the yolks runny.

Step 3: Toasting the Bread

Slice the bread buns in half. Spread a little butter on each half and toast them in a clean pan until they’re golden and crispy.

Assembling the Chivito Crocante

To build your Chivito Crocante, start with the base of the toasted bun. Spread a layer of mayonnaise on one side. Place a lettuce leaf and several slices of tomato on the bottom.

Add the cooked steak on top of the vegetables, followed by the ham and crispy bacon. Place the slices of mozzarella cheese and top with a sunny-side-up egg.

Finish with a generous sprinkle of crispy onions to give the sandwich its signature crunch. Place the other half of the bun on top to complete the construction.
