Moussari Ripple Recipe

Moussari Ripple is an exquisite dish that combines the rich flavors of the Mediterranean with a burst of textures. Originating from the coastal regions where ingredients like eggplant, tomato, and lamb are beloved, this dish has been a staple in family gatherings, celebrations, and traditional feasts. Its history traces back to ancient trade routes where spices and culinary techniques were shared among cultures, leading to a fusion of flavor and method that makes Moussari Ripple a beloved dish worldwide.

Ingredients

Preparation

Begin by slicing the eggplants into 1/4-inch thick rounds and sprinkle with salt to draw out moisture. Let them sit for about 30 minutes, then rinse and pat dry with a paper towel. For the tomatoes, blanch them in boiling water for a couple of minutes, then transfer to ice water before peeling and chopping.

Cooking Steps

  1. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onions and sauté until translucent.
  2. Add garlic and stir for another minute until fragrant. Then, add the ground lamb. Cook until browned, breaking apart the meat with a spatula.
  3. Stir in chopped tomatoes, cinnamon, and cumin. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Reduce heat and let it simmer for 20 minutes.
  4. While the lamb mixture cooks, preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  5. In another pan, grill the eggplant slices until golden brown on both sides. A couple of minutes per side should suffice.
  6. Layer the grilled eggplants at the bottom of a baking dish. Pour the lamb mixture over and top with crumbled feta cheese.
  7. Sprinkle dried oregano over the top and drizzle with lemon juice.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until the cheese is slightly golden and bubbly. Set your cooking timer accordingly.

Serving Suggestions

Once baked, let the Moussari Ripple rest for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley. Serve warm as a main dish accompanied by crusty bread and a fresh mixed green salad. A glass of chilled white wine complements its rich flavors beautifully.
