Ingredients
- Flour - 500g
- Ghee - 250g
- Sugar - 300g
- Cardamom powder - 1 tsp
- Almonds - 100g (crushed)
- Pistachios - 100g (crushed)
- Saffron strands - a pinch (soaked in warm milk)
- Milk - 100ml
Preparation Steps
Before beginning, measure out all your ingredients: flour, ghee, sugar, cardamom, almonds, pistachios, saffron, and milk.
Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients
- Heat the milk slightly and add the saffron strands to it. Set aside to soak.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and ghee. Mix them well until you achieve a crumbly texture.
Step 2: Making the Dough
- Carefully add the soaked saffron milk into the bowl with the flour and ghee mixture.
- Mix the ingredients thoroughly until a smooth dough forms. If the dough is too dry, add more milk as needed.
- Once the dough is formed, let it rest for about 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
- Meanwhile, crush the almonds and pistachios if not already done. Set them aside for garnishing.
Step 3: Cooking the Laddus
- Preheat a large non-stick pan on medium heat.
- Add the prepared flour and ghee dough to the pan and begin to cook.
- Stir continuously for about 10-15 minutes until the dough starts to release the aroma. Make sure it doesn't burn by adjusting the heat if necessary.
- Add the sugar and cardamom powder to the mixture. Continue stirring until the sugar is fully integrated.
- Once the mixture thickens, remove from heat.
Step 4: Shaping the Laddus
- Allow the mixture to cool slightly until it's safe to handle.
- Take small portions of the mixture and roll them into small balls or laddus.
- Garnish each laddu with crushed almonds and pistachios by pressing them gently onto the surface.
- Allow the laddus to set at room temperature for at least 2 hours before serving.
Cooking Time
The entire process takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes, including preparation and cooking time.
