Tataki Fusion Bowl
The Tataki Fusion Bowl blends flavors from Japanese and Hawaiian cuisines, creating a delightful dining experience that pays homage to the traditional tataki technique and the colorful poke bowls of Hawaii. In Japanese cuisine, "tataki" refers to a type of preparation in which the meat or fish is seared very briefly over high heat, marinated in vinegar, sliced thinly, and seasoned with ginger. This results in a dish that is both refreshingly raw on the inside yet slightly cooked on the outside.
The rise of global travel has brought Japanese tataki to various parts of the world, including Hawaii, where the love for fresh seafood is evident in its famous poke bowls. Combining these two culinary treasures results in the Tataki Fusion Bowlâa vibrant and mouthwatering meal that captures the essence of both cultures.

- Sesame oil - 2 tbsp
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 tbsp, grated
- Rice vinegar - 2 tbsp
- Rice - 1 cup jasmine or sushi rice
- Edamame - 1/2 cup, shelled
- Avocado - 1, diced
- Cucumber - 1, julienned
- Radish - 1, thinly sliced
- Seaweed - 1 sheet, toasted and cut into strips
- Sesame seeds - 1 tbsp, toasted
- Lime - 1, zested and juiced

Preparation
Step 1: Marinate the Tuna
In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and rice vinegar to create a fragrant marinade. Place the tuna in the marinade, ensuring it is well-coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld beautifully.
Step 2: Prepare the Rice
Cook the rice according to package instructions or until soft and fluffy. Cooking time varies, so consider using our handy cooking timer for accuracy. Once cooked, let the rice cool slightly before fluffing with a fork.
Step 3: Blanch the Edamame
Bring a pot of water to a boil and add a pinch of salt. Add the edamame and blanch for 3-4 minutes, or until tender and vibrant green. Drain and set aside.
Cooking Process
Step 4: Sear the Tuna
Heat a skillet over high heat until hot. Remove the tuna from the marinade, shaking off excess liquid, and sear on each side for 30 seconds to 1 minute, creating a nice crust while keeping the inside raw. Allow the tuna to rest for a few minutes before slicing it thinly.
Step 5: Assemble the Bowl
In a large bowl, arrange a bed of fluffed rice. Neatly position the seared tuna slices on top, along with blanched edamame, diced avocado, julienned cucumber, sliced radish, and strips of toasted seaweed. Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and a dash of chili flakes for a hint of spice.
