Ingredients
- Chicken - 1 whole (about 2 kg)
- Onion - 2 large
- Garlic - 4 cloves
- Carrot - 3 medium
- Turnip - 2 medium
- Celery - 2 stalks
- Thyme - 1 teaspoon
- Butter - 100 grams
- Flour - 2 tablespoons
- Chicken Broth - 1 liter
- Potato - 4 large
- Cheese (preferably Gruyere) - 200 grams grated
- Parsley - 1 handful chopped
- Salt - to taste
- Black Pepper - to taste
Preparation Process
Preparing the Vegetables
Begin by finely chopping the onion, garlic, carrot, turnip, and celery. Peel the potato and cut them into small cubes. Set these prepared vegetables aside while you move on to preparing the chicken.
Preparing the Chicken
Carefully clean the chicken and remove any excess fat. Rub the inside and outside with salt and black pepper. Allow it to rest for a few minutes to let the marinade seep in.
Cooking Process
Step 1: Making the Vegetable Base
In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, garlic, carrot, turnip, and celery. Sauté until the vegetables are soft and fragrant. Sprinkle the thyme and mix well.
Step 2: Thickening the Base
Sprinkle the flour over the sautéed vegetables and stir for about 2 minutes until the flour turns slightly golden. This will help thicken the base.
Step 3: Adding Broth and Chicken
Pour in the chicken broth and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, add the prepared chicken into the pot. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for approximately 1.5 hours or until the chicken is thoroughly cooked. Use a cooking timer for precision.
Step 4: Finishing Touches
Remove the chicken from the pot and allow it to cool slightly before shredding the meat off the bones. Discard the bones and return the shredded meat to the pot. Add the cubed potatoes and simmer until they are tender. Finally, stir in the grated cheese and mix until the cheese is melted and well combined.
