Chak-Chak Whip
Chak-Chak is a traditional dish in Tatar and Bashkir cuisines, with origins dating back centuries. It is a beloved sweet that holds a place of honor at weddings, celebrations, and family gatherings. The dish is primarily made from fried dough pieces drizzled with honey. In this Chak-Chak Whip recipe, we modernize the classic treat with a whipped cream twist, blending the flavors of tradition with contemporary influences.
Ingredients
- Flour - 400 grams
- Eggs - 4 large
- Salt - a pinch
- Sugar - 50 grams
- Honey - 200 grams
- Cream - 250 ml
- Oil (for frying) - 500 ml
- Butter - 50 grams
Preparation
Start by preparing the dough. Beat the eggs with salt until slightly foamy. Add in the sugar and mix well. Gradually add in flour, continuing to mix until the dough becomes smooth and elastic. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes. Let it rest for approximately 30 minutes covered with a cloth to prevent drying.
Cooking Process
Step 1: Rolling and Cutting
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1/4 inch.
- Cut the rolled dough into thin strips and then cut the strips into small squares or diamonds.
Step 2: Frying
- Heat the oil in a deep pan until it reaches about 180°C (350°F).
- Fry the dough pieces in batches until they are golden brown and crispy. Remove them with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
Step 3: Honey Mixture
- Melt the butter in a saucepan and add the honey. Stir and heat until the mixture begins to bubble gently.
- Remove from heat and immediately pour the honey mixture over the fried dough pieces, tossing to coat them evenly.
Step 4: Whipped Cream
- Whip the cream until it forms soft peaks.
- Fold the whipped cream gently into the coated dough pieces, ensuring even distribution.
