Seaside Succulence
The Seaside Succulence is a dish inspired by the vibrant marine life of coastal regions. Traditionally prepared by fishermen families, this dish captures the essence of the ocean, merging fresh seafood with aromatic herbs and spices to create a symphony of flavors that dance on the palate. Each ingredient tells a story steeped in history, bringing the sea to your plate.
Ingredients
- Fresh Salmon - 500g
- Medium Shrimp - 300g, peeled and deveined
- Olive Oil - 4 tablespoons
- Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
- Lemon - 1, juiced
- Fresh Thyme - 1 tablespoon
- Smoked Paprika - 1 teaspoon
- Sea Salt - to taste
- Black Pepper - freshly ground, to taste
- Cherry Tomatoes - 200g, halved
- Parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- White Wine - 100ml
Preparation
- Begin by rinsing the fresh salmon under cold water and patting it dry with paper towels. Season it with sea salt and black pepper.
- Combine the olive oil, garlic, lemon juice, and fresh thyme in a small bowl to create a marinade.
- Place the medium shrimp in a separate bowl and add half of the marinade, ensuring each piece is well coated. Set aside to absorb the flavors for at least 15 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 200°C (392°F). While it heats, line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- Arrange the cherry tomatoes on the tray and drizzle with a little olive oil. Season with smoked paprika, sea salt, and black pepper to give them a smoky kick.
Cooking Process
- Place the fresh salmon in the center of the tray beside the cherry tomatoes. Pour the remaining marinade over the fish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes. For accurate cooking, use a cooking timer to ensure the salmon is cooked through but not dry.
- In the meantime, heat a pan over medium heat and pour in a tablespoon of olive oil. Add the marinated medium shrimp and cook until they turn pink and opaque.
- Once cooked, pour in the white wine, and let it simmer for a minute, allowing the alcohol to evaporate while the shrimp absorbs the flavor.
- Remove the tray from the oven and carefully transfer the baked salmon and tomatoes onto a serving plate.
- Top the salmon with the shrimp and drizzle any remaining wine sauce from the pan over the top.
- Finish with a sprinkling of chopped parsley for a fresh, herbaceous touch.
How to Enjoy the Meal
The Seaside Succulence is best enjoyed al fresco, accompanied by a chilled glass of the same white wine used in the cooking process. The medley of seafood flavors pairs exquisitely with the tart and smoky undertones of the seasoning, providing a taste experience akin to an ocean breeze. Consider pairing the dish with a simple side salad or crusty bread to soak in the delightful sauce. With its bright, fresh ingredients, this dish is perfect for a sunlit lunch or a light dinner.
