Christophe's Mashup
About Christophe's Mashup
Christophe's Mashup is a fusion of flavors and cultural culinary techniques inspired by my journey around the world. In every country I visited, I meticulously studied the local cuisine, their traditional recipes, and their deep-rooted history with food. This mashup dish represents a culmination of that learning—a symphony of taste that honors each tradition.
The idea of a culinary mashup isn't new, tracing its roots back to periods when cultures first began to meet and trade. In the bustling Silk Road marketplaces, merchants exchanged not just goods, but also ideas, spices, and food traditions. Such interactions laid the groundwork for the diverse, interconnected flavor profile seen in many modern dishes. Christophe's Mashup draws inspiration from the spice markets of India, the bistros of France, to the street stalls of Southeast Asia. It invites you to join this global culinary conversation by tantalizing your taste buds.
Ingredients
- Potatoes - 4 large, peeled and diced
- Chicken Thighs - 1 pound, boneless and skinless
- Coconut Milk - 1 cup
- Curry Powder - 2 tablespoons
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 tablespoon, grated
- Onions - 1 large, chopped
- Bell Peppers - 2, sliced
- Soy Sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Olive Oil - 2 tablespoons
- Cilantro - a bunch, chopped, for garnish
- Lime - 1, juiced
- Salt and Black Pepper - to taste
Preparation
Step 1: Prepping the Ingredients
Begin by preparing your potatoes. Peel and dice them into equal-sized cubes to ensure even cooking. Marinate the chicken thighs with a pinch of salt, black pepper, and 1 tablespoon of soy sauce. Let it sit for at least 20 minutes while you prepare other ingredients.
Step 2: Creating the Base
In a large frying pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onions and sauté until they become translucent. Stir in the garlic and ginger, cooking them just until fragrant. Add the curry powder, allowing its aromas to bloom and release their full flavor.
Cooking Process
Sautéing the Chicken
Add the marinated chicken thighs to the pan. Cook until they are golden brown and cooked through, about 7-10 minutes. Remove the chicken from the pan and set it aside.
Simmering the Stew
To the same pan, add the diced potatoes and the bell peppers. Pour in the coconut milk and stir with the remaining soy sauce. Let the mixture simmer gently, allowing the potatoes to become tender. Use a cooking timer to keep track and stir occasionally to ensure nothing sticks.
Finalizing the Dish
Once the potatoes are perfectly cooked, return the chicken to the pan. Taste for seasoning, adding more salt or black pepper if necessary. Squeeze in the juice of a lime, which will add a refreshing zing to the dish.
