Wasabi Térdelice
Background and Description
The Wasabi Térdelice is an innovative dish blending the fiery flavors of wasabi with delicate textures and harmonious elements. Its origin can be traced back to fusion culinary explorations in Japan, where chefs sought to merge traditional ingredients with modern techniques. This dish combines the robust spirit of Japanese cuisine with a touch of sophistication.
Ingredients
- Wasabi (2 teaspoons)
- Seared Tuna (2 steaks)
- Avocado (1 ripe)
- Nori Sheets (2 sheets)
- Sushi Rice (1 cup)
- Mirin (2 tablespoons)
- Rice Vinegar (3 tablespoons)
- Soy Sauce (to taste)
- Sesame Seeds (2 tablespoons)
- Ginger (fresh, 1 inch piece)
- Lime (1 whole, juiced)
Preparation
Step 1: Rice Preparation
- Rinse sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch, which helps the rice to be less sticky.
- Bring 2 cups of water to a boil, add the rinsed sushi rice and reduce heat to low, covering the pot.
- Cook for about 20 minutes. Use a cooking timer to ensure perfectly cooked rice.
- Once cooked, fold in mirin and rice vinegar. Allow it to cool.
Step 2: Tuna Marination
- Brush seared tuna steaks with soy sauce and set aside for 10 minutes.
- Grate the ginger and spread it over the tuna steaks.
Step 3: Assembling the Nori Roll
- Lay out a nori sheet.
- Spread the cooled sushi rice evenly over the nori, leaving a border of about 1 inch at the top edge without rice.
- Place slices of avocado over the rice.
- Place the seared tuna on top of the avocado.
- Spread a thin line of wasabi across the tuna.
- Carefully roll the nori, squeezing firmly to ensure the roll is tight and compact.
- Seal the roll by moistening the top edge with water.
Cooking Process
This dish does not require additional cooking, as the tuna is already seared. The focus is on assembly and ensuring the balance of flavors is perfection.
